William R. Werst


William R. Werst, 90, of Springfield died Monday, November 24, 2008 in the Eaglewood Care Center. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on February 20, 1918, the son of Arthur Leonard Werst and Bertha (Perrin) Werst.

He served his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II. William was a graduate of Springfield High School and Wittenberg University. William was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, St. Andrews Lodge #619 F & AM, Palestine Commandery #33 KT, Springfield Council #17 R &SM, Springfield Chapter #18 RAM, Springfield Kiwanis, Sons of the American Revolution, Clark County Historical Society, and New Dimension. His hobbies include genealogy and photography. He retired from WPAFB in the supply department.

William is preceded in death by his parents.

His survivors include his wife of 66 years Anna Catherine (Oldham) Werst, whom he married April 10, 1942; one son and daughter in law, William R.( Ruth) Werst, Jr. of Elgin, IL; four daughters and three sons in law, Ann (Bill) Thomas of Bellefontaine, Mary Jane Weiss of New York, NY, Carolyn (Gary) Wilhoit of Arlington, TX, and Linda (John) Storm of Springfield, VA; one sister Jane Shaffer of Columbus; ten grandchildren William (Jill ) Werst, Jr., Anna (Vincent) Moy, Richard (Keri) Thomas, Laura (Barry) Wolf, Jennifer Crowl, Jim (Sabrina) Wilhoit, David Wilhoit, Josef Storm, Jacque (Ryan) Godwin, Jr., Jesse Storm; nine great grandchildren; two nieces, and one nephew.

Family and friends may call Friday from 4-7 pm in the Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home. Services will be Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 10:30 am in the memorial home with Rev. Charles Hill and Rev. Sherri Blackwell officiating. Burial to follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.
