Elwood Rice


Elwood Rice, 74, of Springfield passed away Wednesday morning, January 28, 2009 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center—East High Campus.

He was born May 4, 1934 in Paintsville, Kentucky, the son of Kenneth and Missouri (Hannah) Rice.

Elwood retired from Navistar in 1983 with 30 years service. He was an avid pool player, loved riding his motorcycle and enjoyed fishing. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret (Campbell) Rice; three daughters, Debbie (Robert) Hibbard, Denise Hamilton and Melanie (Harold) Hakes all of Springfield; two sons, Michael (Linda) Rice and Mark (Tanya) Rice both of Springfield; three sisters, Ruth Smith and Lillian Nawman both of Springfield and Alveda (Stanley) Conley of Tipp City, Ohio; six brothers, John, Delmar (Barbara), Donald, Kenny Jr. (Pearl), Kevin and Keith all of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his dog, Princess.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

On behalf of Elwood's entire family they would like to send a special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Springfield Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Khanna and the medical staff at the Springfield Regional Medical Center-East High Campus.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Bret Layton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery.
