Donald Ray Ritchie


Donald Ray "Buddy" Ritchie, 69, of Springfield passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 3, 2008 in his residence.

He was born in Hazard, Kentucky on November 20, 1938, the son of Wade and Mary Ellen (Wooten) Ritchie.

Buddy was a member of the Union Club. He retired from the Ohio Operating Engineers Union Local #18 as a heavy equipment operator with 30 years of service. Buddy enjoyed going to auctions, working in the garden, restoring old cars, watching NASCAR, football, and CNN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Ottie Prater and Annie White; two brothers Jimmy and Vernon Ritchie; father and mother in law William and Libby Moore; brother in law Carl Yates.

He has left to cherish his memory, his wife of 49 years Marcella Rose (Moore) Ritchie, whom he married February 7, 1959; four children Mary Mader and Donald W. Ritchie, both of Springfield, Tina and Gary Grigg of Urbana, Nina (Danny) Alderson of South Charleston; 4 sisters Bonnie Bloomer of Wolcottville, IN, Inez Conley of Kendallville, IN, Maxine Tucker of Dwarf, KY, Rosie Shepherd of Emmelina, KY; 11 grandchildren Sherrie Thornton, Jeffrey Mader USAF, Christopher Ritchie, Nick Ritchie, Phillip Smith, Wade Ritchie, Morgan Weaver, Katelyn, Grigg, Joe Weaver, Haley Weaver, Hunter Grigg; 8 great-grandchildren Sean Thornton, Karissa Thornton, Nathan Ritchie, Journey Davis, Kayla, Lexi, and Jackson Mader, Kyndal Ritchie; 5 brothers in law Billy and Hannah Moore, Donnie and Sandy Moore, Joey and Carol Moore, Ronnie and Joan Moore, Larry and Sue Moore; 4 sisters in law Bev and Ray Moore, Carolyn and Johnny Brooks, Sharon Yates, Becky and Jack Brakeall; special friend and cousin Carl Patrick; several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family will be Monday from 5-8 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Services will be Tuesday at 1:00 PM in the memorial home with Rev. Richard Blevins of the International Pentecostal Church of Christ officiating. Burial to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
