Bernard J. "Bernie" Ray
Bernard J. "Bernie" Ray, 61, of Hilliard, formerly of Chicago, Illinois and Springfield, Ohio passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2008 in the Zusman House, Columbus with his family near his side.
He was born on April 18, 1947 in Chicago the son of Harry F. and Dorothy (Buckley) Ray. He was an active member of the St. Brendan's Catholic Church, Columbus. His most proud "NRT" (Natural Ray Talent) moments were multiple 300 games in bowling, a rare golf "hole-in-one", and owning the title as "Christmas Billiards Champion". Throughout his life he volunteered time coaching youth baseball and bowling leagues. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing with his son, and a competitive round of family "Texas Hold'em". Bernie was employed by the Drackett Company for over thirty-five years working his way up to Operations Manager. He later took a position with the City of Urbana as City Manager for nearly ten years retiring in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Rosemary (Molda) Ray, two daughters, Renee and Kimberly of Hilliard, one son and daughter-in-law, Bernie Jr. and Jennifer of Pinckney, Michigan; grandchildren: Madison, Mya, Kylie, Tyler, and Dylan, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Stan, Lynne, Judy, Alan, Bev, and Phil.

Visitation will held on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 11-12 p.m. in the Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5800 West 63rd Street, Chicago, IL 60638. A Mass of Christian will be held following visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Bede's Catholic Church, Chicago. Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Bernie Ray Memorial Youth Bowling Fund, c/o 5/3 Bank. The family is being served locally by the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Springfield.
