Rita Marie Peneton


Rita Marie Peneton, 87, of Springfield passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 15, 2008 in Eaglewood Care Center. She was born February 24, 1921 in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Alphonse and Aurella (VanNess) Landes.

Rita was a member of the First United Church of Christ and retired from Fulmer Supermarkets. Following her retirement, she proudly volunteered at Mercy Medical Center for many years. She shared many gifts with family and friends with her crocheting and cross-stitching hobbies. Rita especially enjoyed playing bingo with all her friends at Villa Park and Eaglewood Seniors Community.

Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, N. Jeanne and Mark A. Henson of Springfield; two grandsons, Stephen L. Henson and Christopher A. and Megan M. Henson, all of Springfield; four great-grandchildren, Coryn, Bryce, Cameron, and Brooklynn Henson; sister-in-law, Kay Landes of London, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd M. Peneton in 1974; sister, Norma J. Backhoff; and brother, Samuel G. Landes.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and thanks to Dr. Nha To and the staff at Eaglewood Village for their excellent care and loving compassion while Rita lived at Eaglewood.

A gathering of family and friends will be held in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Her funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gail Eastwood officiating.
