Gertrude "Trudy" Patchen


Gertrude "Trudy" Patchen, 95, of Springfield, died at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2008 in Mercy St. John's Center. She was born July 27, 1913 in Logan, Ohio to Milbert J. and Carolyn T. (Schorr) Cole.

She had been employed as a proofreader for the Springfield News and Sun and had worked for the Columbus Citizen Journal nine years prior. Trudy was a member of St. Bernard Church for a number of years where she was a member of the choir and more recently attended St. Raphael Church. After retiring, she worked at Northridge Christian Day Care and also at Grace Bible Church. She was a graduate of Logan High School and later attended Ohio University and St. Mary's of the Springs College in Columbus, Ohio.

She is survived by a daughter, Joan Harner of Springfield; one granddaughter, Sonya Belew of Springfield; three grandchildren, Dustin Geisel and Chance and Nova Belew; one sister, Grace Sonners of Springfield and dear friend Margie Horstman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward in 1995, son Gregory in 1977, three brothers, Earl, Paul and Robert Cole and a sister, Martha Gahris.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in St. Raphael Catholic Church with Fr. Marv Hackman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan, Ohio.
