Shirley Mae Mitchem


Shirley Mae Mitchem, 69, of Enon, went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2007 after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born on March 24, 1938 in Lashmeet, West Virginia, the daughter of Willie Kyle and Mollie Ann Elliott. Shirley enjoyed volunteering at the Enon Food Pantry where she had many good friends. She cherished the time that she spent with her friends at Webb's Beauty Salon where she was a patron for many years. She also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society and was a member of the New Covenant Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Clinton Mitchem, children, Kyleene and Doug Smith, Beth and Collin Gierke, and Harold Mitchem; grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Nikki and Jessica Smith, Joshua Gierke and Haley Mithem; brothers, Bill and Ross Elliott; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Rex and Joe Elliott.

A gathering of family and friends was held 5-8pm, Monday, April 9, 2007 in Adkins Funeral Home, Enon. The funeral was held 1:00pm Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Clyde Bowen officiating. Burial followed the service in Enon Cemetery. Special thanks to her good friend Mildred Webb and Nurse Kim Padgitt. Memorial contributions can be made to the Enon Food Pantry or the Clark County Special Olympics.
