Robert K. McKie


Robert K. McKie died April 7, 2009, in Omaha, Nebraska. He resided in Elkhorn, Nebraska for the past two years.

Robert was born in Escanaba, Michigan on March 28, 1925 to Howard T. and Mae A. McKie, now deceased.

He had three brothers: Donald, Howard, and twin brother Gerald, all now deceased.

Robert graduated from Escanaba (Michigan) High School before serving in World War II as an Army Air Force gunner aboard B-17 bombers on missions over Europe. He later graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the Public Works Department of the City of Springfield for 30 years, much of it in the position of City Engineer and retired in 1988. As a resident in Springfield for 52 years, Bob was active in High Street United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, Habitat for Humanity, Toast Masters, and Mitchell Hills Country Club. He volunteered at the Heritage Center of Clark County and served as a local leader in Boy Scouts of America, in which as a youth he attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

Robert was married for 56 years to the late Margaret E. (Dressler) McKie and is survived by two sons, John of Woodbridge, Virginia, Richard and daughter-in-law Susan of Waterloo, Nebraska; and three grandchildren; Michael of Shawnee, Kansas, Alison and Jennifer of Waterloo, Nebraska.

A viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday April 11th at LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 830 N. Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio.

Robert's funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday April 13th at High Street United Methodist Church, 230 East High Street, Springfield, Ohio, with Pastor Paul Price officiating.

Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clark County Community Habitat for Humanity (CCCHFH), P.O. Box 1282, Springfield, Ohio 45503.
