Richard L. Maxwell, Sr.


Richard L. "Dick" Maxwell Sr., 66, of Springfield, died Sunday August 17, 2008 in his residence.

He was born December 29, 1941, the son of Charles A. and Lois L. (Woods) Maxwell.

Dick was a member of First Assembly of God where he had served as Treasurer and was a Past Board of Trustees for eight years. He retired from Navistar after thirty-four years and was a member of UAW Local 402. After retirement he worked for the Springfield News and Sun, Courier for the Springfield City Schools and O.I.C.C. / Dr. Dahdah. Dick was also a member of Knights of Pythias Ingomar 610, Clark County Heritage Center and had supported Big Brothers Big Sisters. He was an avid Nascar fan.

Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-six years, Janet (Hites) Maxwell; daughter and son-in-law, Marla and Craig Heaton of Springfield; son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Rick" and Roberta Maxwell Jr. of South Vienna; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Bryan Collins and Heather Burton; great-granddaughter, Savannah R. Burton; godchild Elizabeth "Beth" Fitzpatrick of Mt. Gilead, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Judith (Don) Boysel and Betty Hites; brother-in-law, Rodney Hites Sr. all of Springfield; cousins, Keith (Sheila) Stooksberry, Mike Stooksberry and Charlene (Don) Boccardi.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Aunt Phyllis Stooksberry.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday August 22, 2008 in First Assembly of God, 515 S. Burnett Rd., with Pastor Bud Rose, officiating.

Entombment will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
