Mary Jane McBlane


Mary Jane McBlane, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2008 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center - Fountain Blvd. Campus.

She was born on February 8, 1923 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of Emmett and Barbara A. (Smith) Kern.

Mrs. McBlane graduated from Otterbein College and did graduate work at Colorado State University, Wright State and Wittenberg Universities. Outside of her family, Mrs. McBlane had two loves in life; teaching and music. She was involved with the Springfield Charter Chapter of the American Business Women, Retired Teachers Association, past President of the American Federation of Teachers, past member of the "Fort Nightly" Music Club, the Springfield Symphony for seventeen years and the Denver Symphony. Mrs. McBlane also taught at Wittenberg University for two years in the "Suzuki" movement. She was also a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two daughters and one sons-in-law: Claudia and Ronald Jones of Springfield; and Penny Ake of Springfield; one son, Sheldon E. King and Mary Ellen Davis of Colorado; one step daughter and son-in-law: Becky and Roger Braden of Hollister, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Megan, Amy, Alexis, Kristen, Erin, Caleb, and Michael, four great grandchildren: Brialyn, Ainsley, Elijah, and Zachary, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Samuel McBlane, one step-son, James McBlane, one sister, Rachel Emrich, and one brother, Robert Kern.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Virginia Carlisle officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
