Lillian A. Mack


Lillian A. Mack, 97, of Springfield, died March 10, 2009 at the Glaesner Care Center in Springfield after prolonged declining health. She was born April 29, 1911 in Cleveland, Ohio, to George and Augusta Kase.

Preceded in death by daughter Roberta Hordusky Ehrle, husbands Robert Hordusky, George Weaver and Howard Mack, four brothers and one sister.

Survived by brother Edwin Kase, Boise, Idaho, son-in-law James Ehrle of Springfield, three grandchildren Steve (Kathy) Ehrle of Powell, Ohio, Greg (Faith) Ehrle of Shiocton, Wisconsin and Paula (Jeff) Maresh of Littleton, Colorado, three great grandchildren; Hayden, Haley and Robert Ehrle and niece Dorothy Baker of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Born to immigrants in a different era, Lillian was a first generation American. She spent her early childhood on the family farm. At the age of 12, after earning her 8th grade certificate, she moved away from home. As a youth, she began her career as a live in maid and housekeeper. She later became owner/operator of first a diner and then a cafeteria. During World War II, she supported the war effort by working at an aircraft parts manufacturer in northern Ohio by operating precision grinders and machine tools. After the war, she made a career in real estate by buying, fixing up and selling homes. She retired in Springfield in 1980. She loved home repair, gardening, and cats. Her family will miss her but is happy she is now with God.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday in Ferncliff Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Rick Clos officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:30 PM until the time of the services in the chapel. Burial will follow. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Arrangements are being handled by the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
