Joseph W. Mills


Joseph W. Mills, 86, of Springfield died unexpectedly at 7:33 a.m. Thursday March 8, 2007 in Gulf Coast Hospital, Ft. Myers, FL.

He was born December 20, 1920 in Springfield the son of Joseph A. and Frances (Todd) Mills. He had been employed as a bookkeeper for Chakeres Theatres for 40 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Raphael Church and was a US Army WW2 veteran serving in the Battle of Guadalcanal, Northern Solomon's and Iwo Jima.

Survivors include eight children and spouses; Cindy and Hank Walters, Lebanon, Indiana, Linda Murphy, Julie Mills, JoAnn and Kevin Taylor all of Springfield, Anita Mills, Shepardsville, KY, Rita and Joe Brooks, Springfield, William Mills, Sanibel, FL and Chris Mills, Cape Coral, FL, beloved sister, Judy Rice, Springfield, special brother-in-law, Jack Seipel, Springfield, fifteen grandchildren, Becky Trepcos, Dan and Mike Walters, Jared, Justin and Joel Murphy, Jack & Nicole Brenner, Morgan Lindahl, Colin Taylor, David and Jason Brooks and Ryan, Randy and Matthew Mills, five great grandchildren, Alexis and Johnny Trepcos, A.J. Walters, Amanda Blake and Celeste Halen and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary A. in 1997, two brothers Todd and Richard Mills and a sister Emily Seipel. A special thanks to Nicole for all your assistance during his last days.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17th in St. Raphael Church. Entombment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations may be made to St. Raphael Church or the American Cancer Society. The family is being served by Conroy Funeral Home.
