Janet M. McVey


Janet M. McVey, 93, of Springfield, fell asleep in death on Tuesday morning, February 3, 2009 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center, East High Campus following several weeks of failing health.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 25, 1915 the daughter of James Franklin and Austa Jane (Finch) Hartley.

In 1971, Janet was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall, East Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Janet was a devoted wife and mother and took great pride in her home and garden.

Survivors include her six children and spouses, James H. and Carolyn A. McVey of Springfield, Jack E. and Connie McVey of Lancaster, Gerald L. McVey of Springfield, Thomas L. and Patty McVey of Springfield, and Becky and Allen Frock with whom she made her home; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Doreen Hartley of Texas; eight grandchildren, C.J., Amanda (Greg) Hughes, Holly Fillinger, Kami Morgan, Kelly McIntyre, Gerald McVey Jr., Dustin McVey, and Michael McVey; and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold W. McVey; and a sister, Evelyn.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Newcomers Cemetery.
