Edwin A. Murphy, Jr.


Edwin A. Murphy, Jr., 89 of Springfield died Friday evening in his residence. He was born June 7, 1919 in Springfield, OH the son of Edwin A. and Mary (Nachtrieb) Murphy Sr.

He retired in 1974 as a claims adjuster for GMAC after twenty years of service. Prior to that time he worked for International Harvester Co. for twenty years. He was a member of St. Teresa Church, member and Past President of the Irish Fellowship Society, member and Past Grand Knight of K of C #3737, VFW Post 1031. Ed served in the US Army with the 214th CIC detachment during WW 2 and later as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 109th CIC detachment during the Korean War.

Survivors include five children and spouses; Kathy and Mike Ulliman, Springfield, Theresa and Jacob Wagner, Greenwood, IN, Eileen and Mike Maloney, Michael R. and Terri Murphy, Patrick J. and Cindy Murphy all of Springfield; sister, Patricia Zelenak, Kettering, OH; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene M. in 1986, sister Mary Jo Hinkle and special companion Kathleen "Ransy" Cullen.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday in the Conroy Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Teresa Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Catholic Central High School.
