Anna Mays


Mrs. Anna Mays went to eternal rest on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Kettering Memorial Hospital at 1:10 a.m. She was born in Ashland, Kentucky on April 13, 1931 to the late Ewell H. and Charlotte Coley Young.

At an early age she united with the New Hope Baptist Church and served there until moving to Springfield, Ohio in 1955. She was a member of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully. Anna attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Ashland, Kentucky. She was also a graduate of Erma Lee's School of Cosmetology, Cleveland, Ohio as a licensed beautician. She was a retired employee of YSI.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, brother; Ewell Young Jr. and her husband; Edwin H. Mays (Herman).

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters; Marceeta L. Jeffrey, Springfield, Ohio and Carol A. Johnson, Tucson, Arizona, five grandchildren, a devoted granddaughter; Tracianna (Robert) Winston, Manassas, Virginia, Tylee Reed, Springfield, Ohio, Alana Johnson, Springfield, Ohio, Anna Johnson and Lee Johnson, Tucson, Arizona, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, three sisters; Virginia Wright, Enterprise, Alabama, LouVenia (Kenneth) Bell, Ashland, Kentucky and Avanell (Clarence) White, Enterprise, Alabama, one aunt; Madge Taylor, Willingboro, New Jersey and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, August 25, 2008 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon in St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow in the church at 12 noon. Arrangements provided by the Robert C. Henry Funeral Home.
