Jean Lewis


Jean (Umberger) Lewis, 84, of Springfield went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday evening, August 19, 2008 following a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born June 15, 1924 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of Claude E. Sr. and Leta May (Dalton) Umberger.

Jean was a member of the North Hampton Community Church for over 40 years. She was a born again Christian and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Jean was very proud of her family and a loving and caring mom, sister and grandma. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathleen Lewis of North Hampton; one daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Thomas Smith of Urbana; two sisters, Mary L. Salhus of Virginia and Joan Lutz of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Claude L. Umberger Jr. of South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Bertha Jean Hatcher of New Carlisle; nine grandchildren and spouses, Brian (Marissa) Tregoning, J. Christopher Lautzenheiser, Douglas Lautzenheiser, Emily, Ameila and Frances Smith, Jason (Lisa) Duhon, Cammie Duhon and Mandy (Silver) Mora; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 54 years, Jacque E. Lewis in May of 2001 and two brothers, Richard and John Umberger.

A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the North Hampton Community Church, 105 North Main Street, North Hampton with Pastor Jim Welch officiating.

The family is being served by the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
