Charles F. LaVelle


Charles F. LaVelle, 92, of Springfield, passed away at 11:25 PM Saturday, November 15, 2008 in Eaglewood Care Center. He was born March 24, 1916 in Springfield, the son of William and Ellen (Davis) LaVelle.

Mr. LaVelle was a life long member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. He was a member of the Eagles and was a Veteran of the United States Army during W. W. II serving with the paratroopers and as a glider pilot. He was retired from the Clark County Engineers.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years; Rosemary (Collins) Lavelle, seven children; Charles D. (Barb) LaVelle, Florida, Thomas M. (Karen) LaVelle, William E. (Cynthia) LaVelle, Mary M. Pullins, all of Springfield, Karen S. (Terry) Shaffer, Mechanicsburg, Douglas A. (Denise) LeVelle, Cable and Patricia R. LaVelle, Springfield, grandchildren; Brian, Jennifer, Sara, Michael, Derek, Matthew, Holly, Tony and Tammy, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grand daughter; Mary (Shaffer) Dean, a sister; Mariam Shartz, three brothers; Robert LaVelle, John "Jack" LaVelle, and Harry LaVelle and his parents.

Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday in St. Bernard Catholic Church with Father Paul Hurst officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery
