Vera Y. Koester


Vera Y. Koester, 71, died at home on Monday, March 24, 2008 surrounded by family and friends after a short battle with colon cancer.

She was born April 16, 1936 in Miami County to Warren and Lilah Stansbury.

She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1954 and attended University of Dayton. She was a bookkeeper for most of her life and was a charter member and treasurer for New Carlisle Development Corporation. She spent 14 winters as a snowbird in Harlingen, TX. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliaries of American Legion Post #286, the Amvets Post #148, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, and the VFW Post #9966.

Her husband of 27 years, Richard (Dick) Koester, her parents and her youngest daughter, Michele (Belhorn) Neuhaus, preceded Vera in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Christine (& Del) Fugett, Delano, TN, Dianna (& Mark) Schultz, Springfield, OH, Kym Koester, Dayton, OH and Karen (& Susan) Koester, Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren, Marshall Neuhaus, Danielle Arnett-Kniess, Mark Schultz, Jr., Kerri Fulton, Leah Schultz, and Lilah Neuhaus; her great-grandchildren, Madison, Michele and Makenzi Kniess & Corry Fulton; son-in-law, Bryan Neuhaus; and her loving companion, Bob Harrison, New Carlisle, OH; her sister, Joetta (& Robert) Bode, Dublin, OH and her brother, Paul (& Ruth) Stansberry, Gallipolis, OH.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 30, 2008 from 2-5 p.m. at TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420 or online at https://www.hospiceofdayton.org/donations/donate/. Please remember to get a colonoscopy for the early detection of colon cancer.
