James H. Kitchen


James H. Kitchen, 82, of Springfield, died Friday morning, October 3, 2008 in Springfield Regional Medical Center, East High Campus following a lengthy illness. He was born in Springfield on January 20, 1926 the son of Charles Leroy "Roy" and Hattie G. (Stewart) Kitchen.

He served his country during WWII as a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy. Jim retired in 1982 as a tool and die maker from International Truck & Engine following 35 years of service. He was a member of Anthony Lodge F. & A.M. He loved golf, woodworking, building clocks, archery, and working on cars.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverly P. (Perry) Kitchen; two sons and daughters-in-law, James William and Patsy H. Kitchen of Centerville and Joseph H. and Kristina Kitchen of Springfield; a grandson, James William Kitchen Jr., a step-grandson, Adrian Hull; and two great grandsons, James Henry and William C. Kitchen. Also surviving are two sisters, Julia King and Helen Pollock, both of Springfield; two sisters-in-law, Maripearl Kitchen and Glenna Kitchen, both of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Georgia Reames; two brothers, Jack and Forest Kitchen; three brothers-in-law, Harold King, Jim Pollock and Donald Reames; and two nephews, Steve Pollock and Chad Brown.

Jim's funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor William McKee and Rev. Alan Dietz officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pave the Way Campaign at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 712 N. Fountain Ave., Springfield, Ohio 45504.
