Wayne E. Jackson


Wayne E. Jackson, 86, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord, Thursday May 10, 2007.

He was born in Ashland, KY, the son of Allen Lee and Sadie (Ray) Jackson on April 24, 1921.

He proudly served his country in WWII in the 185th Infantry, 40 Division, S/Sgt, U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged. He saw action in the S. Pacific under General Douglas McArthur. He was awarded the Bronze Arrowhead with five Bronze Battle Stars. Wayne was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8673, past Commander of Clark County Veterans County Veterans Council, past Commander of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 13, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 187, Golden Life Care and a Kentucky Colonel. Wayne also worked part-time as a Special Deputy from 1968-1976. He came to Springfield in June 1950 and worked as a plumber on many construction jobs in and around Springfield, he was a member of Local 97 Plumbers and Pipe fitters. In 1960, he went to work at Wright Patterson A.F.B. in Civil Engineering. He retired in 1983 after 27 years of Federal service.

Wayne and his wife attended the High Street Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his loving family, including his loving wife of 60 years, Lona (Huff); two daughters, Sue (Harold) Stephens and Diana (Joseph) Freeman all of Springfield; three granddaughters, Kimberly Kay Carr of Dublin, OH, Melissa (Ryan) Rohrer, of Springfield, and Jennifer Tingley of Columbus; one grandson, Scott Allan Mills of Lawrenceburg TN, four great grandchildren, Kody and Karey Carr of Dublin, OH, Landon and Laken Rohrer of Springfield, OH. He also leaves a niece, Gloria Lee (Ronnie) Faulk and two great nephews of TN. He leaves behind cousins, Billie Ray, Lucy and Bill Carrick, Frances Wheeler, Dutch Jackson and Eugene Ray; also some of his best High School friends, Irene Priest and Paul Jay Wells. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and only sister, Margaret Fairchild.

The family will receive friends Monday May 14, 2007 from 11am until time of service at 12pm in the JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS Funeral Home, Springfield, with Pastor Bill Blain Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association 1509 New Castle Dr. Springfield, OH 45503 or to the High Street Church of the Nazarene 1625 E. High Street Springfield, OH 45505.

Wayne will be remembered by his family as a Dad/Grandpa who was proud of his country, who could fix anything and was always willing to help.
