Mark T. Johnson


Mark T. Johnson, 46, of Springfield, died unexpectedly Monday morning, April 6, 2009 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center, East High Campus.

He was born in Springfield on April 1, 1963 the son of the late Frank T. and Sophia (Hess) Johnson.

Mark was a 1981 graduate of Catholic Central High School. He was a Lieutenant firefighter/paramedic with the Huber Heights Fire Department for nearly 25 years. He also served as a deputy with the Champaign County Sheriff's Department and previously volunteered with Springfield Township #2 Garden Acres Fire Department and served as a reserve deputy with the Clark County Sheriff's Department. Mark was an adjunct instructor at Clark State Community College. He was a member of First Christian Church, and enjoyed coaching youth baseball and softball and serving as a 4-H advisor. His greatest love was in spending time with his family and being involved with his children's activities.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Natalie K. (Perry) Johnson; their three children, Kelsey, Grant and Meredith; and a sister, Karen (Paul) Stone of Grove City. Also surviving is Natalie's family: parents, John and Lee Young, and brothers and sisters, Randy and Claudia Perry, Karen and Mike Smith, all of Springfield, and Denise and Brian Smith of Dayton; and nieces and nephews, Erika, Sara and Elyse Perry, Taylor and Garrett Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Gail Powell, and Bob Slusser.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in First Christian Church, 3638 Middle Urbana Rd., Springfield.

Mark's funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church with Pastor Craig Grammer officiating.

Entombment will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mark T. Johnson's Children's Memorial Fund, c/o any Fifth Third Bank Branch.
