Howard W. Eichelberger


Howard W. Eichelberger, 87, of Springfield, died Monday morning, July 23, 2007 in Mercy St. John's Center.

He was born in Springfield on March 24, 1920 the son of the late Adam and Ida (Hillard) Eichelberger. In 1986, Howard retired as an inspector from Kelsey-Hayes SPECO Division after over 30 years of service. He was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church and Mechanicsburg Lodge 113 F. & A.M. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was an avid gardener and loved being in the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Clara J. (Briley) Eichelberger; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Carolyn Eichelberger of Urbana, Dale and Joyce Eichelberger of Springfield and Roger and Brenda Eichelberger of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Rick (Laura) Eichelberger, Randy (Anna) Eichelberger, Kristi (Tim) Morris, Greg Eichelberger, Darren Eichelberger, Missy (Brian) Tumbilson, Tricia, and Tammy; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Cliff Beardsley officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
