Orley Elsworth Cooper, Jr.


Orley Elsworth "Larry" Cooper, Jr. 93, lifetime resident of Springfield died Sunday, January 4, 2009 in Mercy St. Johns. He was born on March 3, 1915, the son of Orley E. and Del Nora (Kellison) Cooper, Sr.

He was a graduate of Springfield High School and retired from International Harvester after 37 years of service as a mechanic. Larry was a member of VFW Post 1031, U.A.W. Local 402, Springfield Liedertafel, Rhythm Dance Club, and was a former volunteer with the Springfield Township#2 Fire Department. He served his country in the Pacific during World War II in the Army Air Corps.

Larry was preceded in death by his first wife Rosemary C. (Martin) Cooper; second wife Sarah E. (Gram) Cooper; brothers John and Raymond Cooper; sisters Pauline and Opal Cooper, Irene Leege, Mabel Crabtree, Ruth Long, Juanita Cochenour, and Betty Lou Rodgers,.

Orley is survived by his daughter Mary Josephine Cooper and sons Lawrence M. Cooper, William H. (Susan) Valentine- Cooper all of Upper Arlington, and John R. (Dottie) Cooper of San Marcos, CA; one sister Lenore Goldsberry of Cincinnati; three grandchildren Jo, David, and Michelle; two great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Declan; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Friday from 4-7 PM in the Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home. A celebration of Larrys life will be Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 1:30 PM in the memorial home. Burial to follow in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to the Elderly United.
