Martha A. Treat-Clauss


Martha A. (Colegrove) Treat-Clauss, 88, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, June 14, 2008 in Springfield Regional Medical Center, High St. Campus. She was born in Selma, Ohio on August 7, 1919 the daughter of Theodore Albert and Edythe Alice (Brown) Colegrove.

Martha was an 80 year member of Hillside Church of God and a member of the 1919 Club. In 1937, she married John Treat and they celebrated nearly 52 years of marriage. After his death, Martha worked as a caregiver and companion to people in retirement centers. In 1995, God gave her a second good husband, Joseph Clauss and they celebrated 12 years of marriage until his death earlier this year. She loved her family and loved to bake pies and cook for sick people. Martha had a love for nature and she enjoyed farming, gardening, canning and being a homemaker.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Patricia Treat of Springfield; step-daughter, Judy (Victor) Gran of Springfield; three granddaughters, Kelly Treat of Centerville, Lori Tingley of Springfield, and Tara Treat of Michigan; two step-granddaughters, Amy Gran and Susan (Scott) VanVoorhis; two great grandchildren, Leah and Ethan Tingley; three step-great grandchildren, Hannah and Drew Agee and Cheyenne VanVoorhis; and a special friend, Esther Ours.

In addition to her husbands, Martha was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wendell Colegrove.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Mike Criner and Rev. George Reed officiating. Burial will be in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.
