Mary Lou Campbell


Mary Lou East Campbell, 99, of Springfield, Ohio, passed on Friday, October 17, 2008. She was born in Fayette County, Ohio on August 28, 1909 and was the daughter of Branson and Sarah Ann Burba East.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and a true friend to all who knew her. Mary was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church and Northridge United Methodist Church. She and her husband, Emerson, were blessed to have 71 years of marriage.

Mary is survived by her husband, Emerson; son, Gregory and Imogene Campbell of Indiana; four grandchildren, Robert Campbell of Tennessee, Yvonne and David West of Illinois, Robyn and Greg Wilson of Ohio, and Steve and Michelle Campbell of North Carolina; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She has one brother, Sherrill East of Texas; a nephew, Larry and Sue East of Sabina, Ohio; a college friend, Maurine Trimble who lives with her daughter, Pamela Palmer in Massachusetts, and is loved as a granddaughter.

Mary had been a school teacher at Springfield City Schools for thirty-three years, when she retired in 1973. Her and her husband then traveled for a few years. She also enjoyed several years of organ lessons. Her first organ teacher was former student, Stephanie Hoyle Smith. This was such a great experience for her that she later joined an organ class taught by Stephanie's mother, Martha, the class was called Virginia Smith of Texas. Mary made many close friends in this class, Virginia Ross, Lynn and Russ Hoover, and Kathryn and Kenny Emmons, all of Ohio. She loved gatherings of friends and family, and spending time playing games and enjoying the people in her life. She was loved by her friends and neighbors in every place she lived including the Villa Run Condominiums and Oakwood Retirement Village.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 10:00 to 12:30 p.m. with funeral services at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Ken Woode officiating.

Graveside services will follow directly at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
