Harlan Alfred Chaney
Harlan Alfred Chaney, 92, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2009 in the Hearth & Home. He was born on April 9, 1916 in Springfield the son of William and Naomi (Circle) Chaney.
Harlan served our country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired after thirty-five years of service from Robbins & Myers as a service manager, drove a school bus at the age of thirteen and delivered milk for the family dairy. He managed and cooked for the original Stockdale's Burger-In-Basket, was an auto mechanic and car body man for himself and had Wag-n-Chain Refurnishing and making furniture. One of his hobbies was building clocks.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey of seventy years, parents, brothers: Wendell, Melvin, and Herbert; two sisters, Rhea Frankenbach and Margie Gard, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Russell and Marcella DeMoss, and two nephews, Wayne and Neil Chaney. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Roger Wagner, grandson Chris Wagner and his wife, Ronda, granddaughter Kim Clagg and her husband Rob, four great grandchildren: Cory and Kayla Wagner, and Brittney and Cody Clagg, sister-in-law, Barbara Chaney of Phoenix, three nephews: Larry Chaney of Springfield, Dave and Terry Chaney of Arizona; niece, Rhea Lynn of Colorado.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor James Welch officiating. Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the time of service.
Harlan was a loving, helpful, and inspiring man to his family and all who knew him. Once you met him you had a friend. Hearth & Home Assisted Living and all the caregivers who loved and care for him and Audrey over the past six years, you made them fell truly loved and at home.
