George E. Chadbourne Jr.


George E. Chadbourne Jr., of New Carlisle, died peacefully on March 4, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 12, 1922 in Bridgton, Maine to George E. Sr. and Marjorie E. (Edgerly) Chadbourne.

He graduated from Bridgton Academy and the University of Maine. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was a Mechanical Engineer for the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster. He retired from WPAFB in 1977 as an Aeronautical Engineer.

George leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, LaVonne (Kieffer) Chadbourne; 3 children Robert E. Chadbourne, Debra A. Chadbourne and Kathleen S. (David) Riley; 4 grandchildren Brandy Chadbourne, Stephanie, Tiffany and Andy Riley; a sister Betty VanEtten (Illinois); an aunt Ruth Calhoun (Indiana); sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy and Ted Flora, Mary and Jay Getz (Florida); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, infant sister Agnes and special cousin Julia Austin.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday March 13, 2009 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, with a visitation 10-11:30 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
