Eugene M. Canaan


Eugene M. Canaan, 95, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008 in his residence. He was born on September 30, 1913 in Madison County, Ohio the son of Axell Canaan and Blanche (Hubbard) Kaasch.

<> He retired from Cooper Energy in 1977, a fifty plus year member of the Shawnee Chapter #237 and the Clark Lodge #101 Free & Accepted Masons, and a life member of London, Ohio Fraternal Order of Eagles #950. Mr. Canaan served our country in the United States Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of fifty-nine years, Betty Canaan, and brother Earl.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Grace Canaan, her daughter, Virginia Long, and son Earl Jr. and wife Donna. Barbara Dunithan who made her home with Eugene and his wife Betty as a child and later as a companion and her children: Harold, James and their families, and several nieces and nephews.

He attended several churches in Springfield and was baptized at the age of twelve and again at fifty-four.

A celebration of his life and Masonic services will be held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Walter Mock officiating. Burial will be in Kirkwood Cemetery, London, Ohio. Friends may call one hour prior to the time of service.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Tammy and Lynn with Community Mercy Hospice for their care and concern shown to Eugene during his final days.
