Carl E. Cline

Carl E. Cline was called to Heaven on April 4, 2009, after a long and devastating battle with cancer. He was born February 15, 1937, in Beavercreek, Ohio, and lived an adventurous and active life.

He worked as an accomplished machinist, and was employed in that trade at both National Cash Register, in Dayton, and SPECO-Kelsey Hayes, in Springfield, both for 16 years each. He was very well acquainted with horses, and in years past he was to be seen competing at every rodeo he could find. Carl formerly raised and trained Quarter Horses, and was a member of the Clark County, the Ohio, and the American Quarter Horse Associations. In addition to training, riding, and competing with horses, Carl was also a blacksmith and farrier, and used to travel around Clark County shoeing horses at a variety of farms.

Carl was a professional real estate Appraiser, Broker & Realtor for over 35 years, held in high esteem by his colleagues, and he was a member of the Springfield Board of REALTORS, the Ohio Association of REALTORS, and the National Association of REALTORS. Carl loved the outdoors, and was at one time an avid hunter. He was also an enthusiastic fisherman, and while he no longer hunted, he could be found on occasion still grasping a pole and sitting with his grandsons, whom he adored. He also enjoyed sitting around a table with friends and family for a good game of Euchre.

In 1992, Carl joined the Free and Accepted Masons at Fielding Lodge # 192, in South Charleston, rising to become Past Master, and being a Mason was one of his proudest accomplishments. His devotion to the high ideals of the Masonic Order was exemplified in his actions toward others. However, despite the adventure of his life, Carl's later years had him fulfilling the most rewarding role, that of "Papaw". With his loving wife & soul mate of 16 years, Nancy, he spent numerous hours with his 5 cherished grandsons, and they, of all of us, will miss him and his love the most.

His survivors include wife Nancy L. (Green) Cline, three daughters Kathy (Christopher) Schreiner and Lisa Cline both of Fort Wayne, IN and Kristin (Kristopher) Shultz of South Vienna, one brother Theodore (Lee) Cline of Longmont, CO, step daughter Robin Clenney of Springfield, grandsons Christian, Kadin, Kasin, R.J., and Nicholas, nephews Michael Dickson, James, Richard, & Tom Cline.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kathleen Dickson.

Family and Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME with Masonic memorial services at 7:30 pm. A celebration of Carl's life will be Thursday at 11:00 am in the memorial home with Rev. Dan Held of Lagonda United Methodist Church officiating. Burial to follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions are requested to the American Cancer Society, Community-Mercy Hospice, or Springfield Township Fire & EMS.
